Abdominoplasty

What is Abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. This procedure is often performed after significant weight loss or pregnancy when the skin and muscles of the abdomen may become stretched and lose their elasticity. Abdominoplasty can help create a smoother, firmer abdominal profile.

Symptoms

Swelling and bruising: After surgery, it is normal to experience swelling and bruising around the abdomen, which typically subside over time.

Pain and discomfort: Some pain and discomfort are common after surgery and can be managed with pain medication prescribed by your surgeon.

Numbness or changes in sensation: Temporary numbness or changes in sensation around the incision site are normal and usually improve over time.

Tightness: You may feel tightness in the abdomen as the skin and muscles heal and adjust to their new position.

Scarring: Abdominoplasty involves incisions, which will result in scars. These scars will fade over time but may remain visible.
